Alba-Iulia

The citadel still standing today was built in the 18 th century over the ancient roman castrum of Apulum. The fortress has seven bulwarks that make it a star shaped one, common to Vauban fortresses Alba Iulia being quite representative for this type. This unique military architecture monument is paticularly admired for the mythological decorations on its walls. This area is also well-known for the wines made here.

The Unification Cathedral, The Roman Camp, The Princely Palace and the Apor Palace are important tourist attraction.
